The camp is open to middle and high school-age musicians and students interested in learning or enhancing their music production skills.

The Audio Recording & Production Summer Camp will run Monday through Friday, June 10-14, 2024.

Monday

  • Audio basics, sound, and signal flow
  • Microphone types and uses – Dynamic, Condenser, and Ribbon
  • Learning the recording console
  • How to use Tracks, Busses, Inserts and Returns
  • Using plugins and outboard processing

Tuesday

  • Recording the rhythm section
  • Drum micing techniques and microphone selection
  • Signal path, setting levels, and gain staging
  • Compression and Equalization
  • How phase impacts sound – in phase and out of phase

Wednesday

  • Recording guitars
  • Electric
  • Acoustic
  • Overdubs
  • Punch-ins

Thursday

  • Recording vocals
  • Vocal microphone techniques
  • Doubling and panning
  • Reverb, delay and harmoniziers
  • Building a composite track

Friday

  • Mixing the song
  • Stereo image and placement
  • Proper playback levels
  • Mix bus compression and equalization
  • Mastering

What You’ll Learn

Students can expect an exciting and educational week of recording, mixing and engineering, hosted by professional studio engineers and musicians. Students will gain hands-on experience in microphone techniques, tracking, mixing, editing, and mastering.

During the camp, the class will gain hands-on experience recording a live band and mixing a complete song.  Each day students will explore proper microphone placement and mixing techniques, along with the ins and outs of industry standard recording DAW (digital audio recording) software.

Students will learn how to mix “in the box” as well as “on the console.”

By the end of the week, students will complete a professional mix project ready to share with family and friends and receive a certificate of course completion.

What you need to bring

Students will need to bring a packed lunch and water bottle, and hearing protection for use in working with loud sounds.

A full refund will be offered to cancellations up to 15 days prior to the camp start date. Cancellations within 14 days before camp will receive a 50% refund.
